juOnBox Music 06: The Indigo Girls

From classic folk rock to modern rock to top 40 and now pop rock. That’s the Indigo Girls’ 20 years of discography in one, uhm, phrase. The duo of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers has been making beautiful music together since 1985, and they just recorded their 10th studio album Despite the Differences under Hollywood Records which was released last 16 September 2006. I will be uploading Despite the Differences here once I get hold of a copy. In the meantime, here are two samplers from Indigo Girls: 4.5 The Best of the Indigo Girls.

Power of Two

Now the parking lot is empty
Everyone’s gone someplace
I pick you up and in the trunk I’ve packed
A cooler and a 2-day suitcase
Cause there’s a place we like to drive
Way out in the country
Five miles out of the city limit were singing
And your hands upon my knee

So were okay
Were fine
Baby I’m here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I’m stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that’s true
Multiply life by the power of two

You know the things that I am afraid of
I’m not afraid to tell
And if we ever leave a legacy
It’s that we loved each other well
Cause I’ve seen the shadows of so many people
Trying on the treasures of youth
But a road that fancy and fast
Ends in a fatal crash
And I’m glad we got off
To tell you the truth

Cause were okay
Were fine
Baby I’m here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I’m stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that’s true
Multiply life by the power of two

All the shiny little trinkets of temptation
(make new friends)
Something new instead of something old
(but keep the old)
All you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface
(but remember what is gold)
And its fools gold
(what is gold)
Fools gold
(what is gold)
Fools gold

Now were talking about a difficult thing
And your eyes are getting wet
I took us for better and I took us for worse
Don’t you ever forget it
Now the steel bars between me and a promise
Suddenly bend with ease
The closer I’m bound in love to you
The closer I am to free

So were okay
Were fine
Baby I’m here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I’m stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that’s true
Multiply life by the power of two

Galileo

Galileo's head was on the block,
The crime was looking up for truth,
And as the bombshells of my daily fears explode,
I try to trace them to my youth.

And then he had to bring up reincarnation,
Over a couple of beers the other night,
And now I'm serving time for mistakes made
By another in another lifetime.

How long till my soul gets it right,
How many human being ever reached that kind of light,
To call on the resting soul, of Galileo,
King of night vision, king of insight.

I think about my fear of motion,
I wish I never could explain,
Someone who flew across the ocean years ago,
Must've crashed his little airplane.

I'm not making a joke, you know me,
I take everything so seriously.
We wait for the time til our souls get it right,
Well at least I know there'll be no nuclear annihilation
In my lifetime, I'm still not right.

I offer thanks to those before me,
That's all I've got to say,
Maybe you squandered big bucks in your lifetime,
Now I have to pay.

But then again it feels like some sort of inspiration,
To let the next life off the hook,
Let's just see...look what I have to overcome from my last life,
I think I'll write a book.

How long (til my soul gets it right)
How long (til my soul getis it right)
How looooooooooooooooong

@ Mark. No problem Mark. I'm into retro stuff lately so expect more of that. I'm listening to two classic U2 CDs now. Achtung Baby and Pop. :-)

@ Drei. Hoy. :-) I better check that one out. The Lilith Fair is hot.

@ Momel. They're not as pop as pop can get. They do have their own following. Check out the samplers. You might like them. :-)
